Engineering
recruitment

Permanent recruitment for engineering roles, structured around the discipline, the environment and the standard the role is expected to work to.

01Engineering context

The discipline is only the starting point.

Engineering requirements are rarely captured by a title. The same label can describe hands-on maintenance on a production line, design work in CAD, compliance-driven quality engineering or the leadership of a multi-disciplinary technical team.

Axiom’s approach starts by pinning down the specifics: what is being engineered, maintained or improved; the equipment, systems and standards involved; the balance between site-based and office-based work; and how the role fits into the wider technical structure.

That definition shapes where the search goes and how the opportunity is described to people whose experience may be relevant.

02 Defining the requirement

What shapes
the engineering brief.

Six dimensions that are clarified before the search begins. Each one changes where relevant experience is likely to be found.

  • 01Dimension

    Discipline

Mechanical, electrical, controls, manufacturing, quality or a combination — and which is primary.

  • 02Dimension

    Environment

Production, process, assembly, test, field or design office, and the regulatory context around it.

  • 03Dimension

    Systems & tools

Equipment, software, methods and standards the role must be competent with from day one.

  • 04Dimension

    Responsibility

Hands-on delivery, technical ownership, people leadership or a defined mix.

  • 05Dimension

    Working pattern

Site presence, shift exposure, travel and any on-call expectations.

  • 06Dimension

    Qualifications

Which qualifications or registrations are genuinely required — and which are preferred.

03 Functional areas

Assignments may span

The functions below are examples of where engineering assignments may sit. They describe potential scope — each search is defined by its own requirement.

  • 01Mechanical
  • 02Electrical
  • 03Manufacturing
  • 04Maintenance
  • 05Design
  • 06Quality
  • 07Production
  • 08Operations
  • 09Project Engineering

04 Search approach

Contingent or retained,
the same method.

Engineering roles can be supported through contingent recruitment or a retained search. The choice depends on the requirement, the market and how dedicated a search the role warrants — and it is discussed openly.

Either way, the search moves through the same seven stages: from a defined requirement to an appointment decision that remains with the employer.

See the full search approach
  1. 01

    Define

Clarify what the role must deliver, the environment it sits in and the parameters of the search.

  2. 02

    Map

Understand where relevant experience is likely to exist and how the market may respond to the brief.

  3. 03

    Search

Identify and approach people whose background relates to the defined requirement.

  4. 04

    Align

Discuss the opportunity openly and test candidate experience, motivation and practicalities against the brief.

  5. 05

    Introduce

Introduce relevant candidates to the employer with role-specific context, with the candidate’s agreement.

  6. 06

    Interview

Coordinate interview stages, preparation and feedback between employer and candidate.

  7. 07

    Appoint

Support communication through offer and acceptance. The hiring decision remains the employer’s.

05 Responsible recruitment

Clear about what
recruitment support is.

Where qualifications, professional registrations or certifications are relevant to an engineering role, verification requirements are determined according to the employer, role and recruitment process.

Candidates

Working in engineering?

If you work in engineering and are considering a permanent move, Axiom will talk through the technical substance of an opportunity — not just the title and salary.

No public vacancies are currently listed.

Define the role. Find the alignment.
